The Do The Work Helpline has new guidelines! Please review
them before you call. Thank you. These guidelines were updated on June 22,
2010.
About the Helpline
The Helpline is a free service offered for people new to The Work and those who need occasional assistance or support in doing The Work. Our Helpline is provided by experienced volunteer facilitators who offer their time to support you to learn how to do The Work for yourself.
Their available time is scheduled and this is the time you can connect. They
do not make or accept appointments outside these scheduled times. If you are
looking for ongoing facilitated sessions or an appointment, we invite you to
contact one of the Certified
Facilitators.
We are here to support you to turn your life around.
How to Call the Helpline
- Check the schedule (Click “I have read this information” at the bottom of the page to see the schedule).
All times on the schedule are in U.S. Pacific Time.
(If you live in another time zone, please convert your time to this time zone. http://www.timeanddate.com/)
Call the facilitator via phone or Skype and please do not call facilitators outside their scheduled times.
- You are responsible for any phone charges. Many facilitators have free
long distance calling and may be willing to call you back.
- The facilitators
respect your privacy. We do not expect you to give your name, location, or
any other identifying information.
- Please come prepared with a completed
Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet or a question about The Work. See below for information
about completing a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet.
- The Helpline is not intended
for ongoing Work. The length of your call depends on a variety of factors.
Our intention is to make ourselves available to as many people as possible.
- If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself or others, please call
your local emergency services for help, or contact your local mental health
clinic, hospital, or organization.
- If you do not reach the facilitator
we invite you to leave your contact information and the facilitator will
return your call within the scheduled time if possible. There is a waitlist
for those who do not connect with a facilitator and want to be called back
within 24 hours.
Leave your contact information, plus call back time within
the next 24 hours (converted to the US Pacific Time Zone), with the facilitator
you tried to reach. Please speak slowly and clearly and repeat your phone
number/skype information. Our volunteers will do their best to return your call.
How do I fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet?
- Read the first three sections of Chapter 2 in Loving What Is.
- Watch
the video of Katie demonstrating how to fill out a Judge-Your-Neighbor
Worksheet.
- Please fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor
Worksheet expressing your thoughts
and feelings about someone other than yourself, especially if you are new
to The Work.
- Do your best, and if you are still confused, our Helpline volunteers are
available to guide you through the process.
About the Helpline Volunteer Facilitators
- The Helpline is provided by both Certified Facilitators and candidates in training. They volunteer their time to support you in experiencing the power of The Work and learning to do The Work on your own.
- All Helpline facilitators are experienced and have undergone a qualification process.
- Our Helpline volunteers are not mental-health experts and are not qualified to give professional mental health, medical, or other advice.
Helpline Facilitator's Responsibilities
- It is the facilitator's responsibility to guide you through The Work (four
questions and turnarounds), not to give advice or therapy.
- The facilitators have each agreed to follow and to respect our Code of
Ethics. Our code of ethics is available here.
FAQs
Q: You say that the Helpline is “not for ongoing Work.”
Why not?
A: Our intention for the Helpline is to have facilitators
available to as many new callers as possible and to assist them as they learn
to do The Work on their own. We offer many other options. Please visit
www.thework.com for
more information.
Q: When I call a Certified Facilitator on the Helpline, their
services are offered free of charge. Yet when I want to do The Work with
a Certified Facilitator when they are not on the Helpline, it seems they
all charge. Why should I pay someone when I can Work with them for
free?
A: The Certified Facilitators who volunteer on the Helpline
are there, as volunteers without pay, only to support those who want to learn
to do The Work on their own. While the Helpline is free, there is no guarantee
that any facilitator, even though they are listed as available, will have the
time to do The Work with you, nor can you or your facilitator know how much
time will be available. Contacting one of our Certified Facilitators through
the facilitators section at thework.com means that you will be able to arrange
an appointment with the facilitator of your choice, you will be able to Work
together as often as you choose, and you will have the continuity of Working
with the same person regularly. Many of our Certified Facilitators offer free
introductory sessions, sliding scale payments, and/or discounts for multiple
sessions.
Q: I really like the facilitator I worked with.
Can I pay them for individual sessions?
A: Please see the list of Certified Facilitators. Your
facilitator may or may not be listed. We invite you to read the facilitators’
profiles, select one or more whose profiles resonate with you, and contact
them directly. Most Certified Facilitators work by phone and Skype and are
available to facilitate you regardless of where you live.
Q: I don’t want to write a Judge-Your-Neighbor
Worksheet. I prefer Working on a single stressful thought. Why do I have
to write a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet to Work with a Helpline volunteer?
A: Writing a full Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet not only gives
you “a single stressful thought” to work on; it helps you to clarify your thoughts
and gives you a deeper experience of The Work. We invite you to contact the
Helpline after filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. Please see the link
to the Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet download.
Q: I’ve been using The Work on the Web. Will
my facilitator have access to my Worksheets and be able to facilitate me
on them?
A: The Work on the Web is a separate entity and Helpline
volunteers do not have access to your Worksheets.
Q: I have feedback on my Helpline experience. How do I contact
you?
A: Byron Katie welcomes your feedback. Please email her at helpline@thework.com or
use the “feedback” button on the schedule page.
